FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+ DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

Acupuncture needles are very thin - about the width of a single strand of hair - and they are inserted shallowly into the skin. The experience is different for each patient, but most do not feel the insertions at all, or only feel a tiny pinch or energetic “twitch” for some needles.

Once all of the needles have been placed, most feel a sense of deep relaxation - and some patients often drift off to sleep! We have had many patients who are nervous or have a phobia of needles, only to discover that they have no anxiety or pain from acupuncture needles.

+ DOES CUPPING HURT?

Cupping typically does not hurt, although it can sometimes feel intense in the way that a great massage can feel intense when targeting problem areas. The marks left by cupping do not hurt. Called “petechia”, they can range from very pale pink to dark purple, depending on the level of stagnation in the area, and they typically disappear within 2-10 days of treatment.

+ WHAT DO I WEAR?

Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing is best. If you are asked to remove any clothing in order to access necessary acupuncture points, you will be able to do so privately and will be draped with fabric so that you will be comfortably covered and relaxed throughout the duration of the treatment.

+ WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?

For your first appointment, you’re encouraged to share any labs, imaging, or bloodwork that may be relevant to your treatment. For subsequent appointments, you don’t need to bring anything - although we always recommend bringing a bottle of water for post-treatment.

At this time, we are asking that all patients continue to wear a mask while in the building.

+ SHOULD I EAT BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

We advise against eating a large meal right before your treatment, but coming to your appointment completely famished isn’t ideal either. A light meal or snack before your appointment is recommended, as is drinking plenty of water before and after your treatment to optimize the results.

Please avoid coffee before your appointment if possible, and refrain from consuming alcohol on the day of your appointment.

+ ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Acupuncture side effects are typically non-existent. Drowsiness can occur after treatments due to the relaxing nature of acupuncture, and occasionally some needle points may result in small, minor bruising. Some patients prefer not to exercise after a session, in order to prolong the healing and regenerative effects of muscle relaxation.

+ DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

At this time Find Your Chi is not in-network with any insurance providers. However, we are happy to provide a receipt that you can submit to your provider.

+ HOW DO I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please text Darin at 480-209-8981.

We ask that patients cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours prior to their appointment time. Cancellations made within 24 hours will be subject to a late fee.

No-call, no-shows will be charged in full.

+ HOW SOON WILL I FEEL THE BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE?

Everyone responds differently - it varies based on the person and the issue. Some patients feel relief and reduced symptoms after just one or two sessions, but it can take ongoing sessions to address and resolve the root of an issue to find lasting healing. Your acupuncturist will work closely with you to find the best treatment plan and supplementary methods you can use at home to optimize your healing process.

+ HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET ACUPUNCTURE DONE?

Some patients see us once or twice a week, and others come in for monthly appointments. We will offer suggestions for appointment frequency based on the nature of your issues, but we will always defer to a schedule that feels comfortable and financially accessible for you.

For facial rejuvenation treatment, we do recommend a series of 6-12 treatments within a 6 week period to see the best results.

+ CAN I GET ACUPUNCTURE IF I'M PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?

Yes! Acupuncture during pregnancy can help with nausea, lower back pain, insomnia, and more. Acupuncture for new mamas can be very helpful “me time” that can help remedy exhaustion, anxiety, depression, and balancing hormone levels.
